Bakeneko is a toy that belongs to Louise Belcher from the show Bob’s Burgers and is most prominently featured in the episode Flu-ouise (Season 7, Episode 1). In the episode, he built a beautiful sundeck up in the trees. He enjoyed bringing a good book there and feeling the gentle breeze. The name Bakeneko commes from a Japanese mythological monster that looks like a cat, but I think Louise’s Bakeneko is a bear.

This 9-page crochet pattern contains detailed descriptions and photos to help you create your very own Bakeneko stuffed toy and will require you to have crochet knowledge. The pattern is in English and written in US crochet terminology.

Difficulty Level: Intermediate to Difficult

Materials needed to create a 14.5 inches (37cm) tall toy:

  • Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran in Kingfisher Blue, Pale Lilac, Red Wine, Vintage Pink, Champagne White, and Pure Black
  • 3.25 mm Crochet Hook
  • Polyfil for stuffing
  • Scissors
  • Darning Needle
  • Pins
  • Locking Stitch Marker

I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran for this toy; however, you can use any cotton yarn as long as you correspond your hook to the weight of your yarn. For this pattern, I used roughly 200g of Kingfisher Blue (a little less than 5 skeins of yarn), 15g of Red Wine (< 1 skein), 10g of Pale Lilac (< 1 skein), 10g of Champagne White (< 1 skein), 5g of Vintage Pink (< 1 skein), 5 g of Pure Black. Please note that the amount of yarn you use will depend on your tension and the type of stitch you use.
