Free Cup Noodles Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

Hey y’all, it’s definitely been a minute! I’m not great with Summer weather, so I’ve honestly just been hibernating with Ollie the past couple of months. Not feeling super great about the lack of productivity, but I’m glad I’ve had the chance to rest up and relax a bit! And I’m super excited that it’s finally Fall again!

Anyway, if you follow me on Instagram, then you’ll see that I’ve entered the #AmigurumiShowcase contest! My entry for this contest is this cute little Cup Noodles amigurumi toy and I LOVE it. My design wasn’t chosen for the shortlist, but I enjoyed making this so much that I’m going to post the pattern anyway.

I mean, honestly, how stinkin’ cute is this!?I had so much fun coming up with the design and I love that it’s interactive. I hope you guys like the design as well! 😀

Yarn I Used

I used WeCrochet Shine Sport Yarn for this toy; however, you can use any yarn as long as you correspond your hook to the weight of your yarn. For this pattern, I used roughly 10g of White, 2g of Serrano, 2g of Dandelion, 4g of Sweet Potato, and a little bit of Macaw. (1 skein of yarn is about 50g)

It’s currently out of stock on their site, so if you don’t already own this yarn, you can substitute with any sport weight cotton yarn.

Gauge

5 Round Circle = 1.5” with a 2.75mm hook

Gauge isn’t super important for amigurumi, but I included it just in case you want to check your gauge. Being a little off should not affect the final product too much. You can learn more about how to measure gauge for amigurumi here!

The difficulty level of this pattern is Easy/Intermediate. You will need to be comfortable with colour change and know how to do the Seamless Join in the Round. There is a little bit of basic embroidery involved as well.

The finished toy measures to be about 2.25 in (6 cm) tall.

This pattern in written in US crochet terminology.

Fasten off and weave tails in.

*To prevent the colour changing “step” at the beginning/end of the round, I like to fasten off and seamless join in the round. Continue working the next round: with a slip knot on your hook, pick up the first sc in the false stitch you created when doing the seamless join.

Noodles

with Dandelion yarn

  • Mix glue to water (1:1) to make fabric stiffener.
  • Cut four pieces of 7-inch long strands of Dandelion yarn.
  • Wrap the yarn around a metal knitting needle and soak the yarn fully with the fabric stiffener. Allow to dry fully.
  • Once dry, pull the yarn coils off the needle and pull slightly to loosen up the coil a little.

Assembly

  • Line up the back of the Cup to the back of the Lid and whip stitch the pieces together through the front loops of the Lid and back loops of the Cup. I went through 7 stitches. Weave the tail in.

Free Cup Noodles Instant Ramen Amigurumi Toy Crochet Pattern Step 7

  • Cut out a small piece of white felt (roughly 1.15” x .5” or 3cm x 1cm) and embroider the word “NOODLE” or “NOODLES” onto it with some red embroidery thread. I used DMC 666 and only used 3 strands from the 6-strand thread. I did a combination of back stitch when there are straight lines and split stitch where there are curves. And I chose to write “NOODLE” because it’s what’s on the Japanese cup noodles labels.
  • Pin it onto the front of the cup and use the other 3 strands of embroidery thread to sew the label on.

  • With Serrano and Macaw yarn, embroider some short lines onto the Soup to represent the dehydrated veggie bits.

Free Cup Noodles Instant Ramen Amigurumi Toy Crochet Pattern Step 11

  • Thread the noodles under the soup and out with a darning needle, making sure that the noodle is going front to back when the front of the cup is facing you (this makes it easier to pick the noodles up with a pair of chopsticks later). Doing so will make the noodles lose a little bit of its curl, but the fabric stiffener should still allow the noodles to keep some shape.
  • Tie a secure double knot, then trim off any excess tail. Pull the knotted end underneath the soup to hide. Repeat with the other 3 strands of noodles.
