Note: This pattern has been updated as of April 2021. The changes include an updated hook size, gauge, and stitch type that creates much tighter stitches. This creates a slightly smaller toy, but ensures that the stuffing doesn’t show through if you are matching the gauge provided.
Those who know me personally will know that it’s no secret that I love Bob’s Burgers. When the show was on Netflix, it was all I would watch. So when the first episode of Season 7 (Flu-ouise) came out and gave us more background on some of Louise’s stuffed animals, I knew that I had to create them.
The first stuffed animal I chose to create is Mizuchi. Mizuchi is a cute, squishy pink toy that loves to tan. The name Mizuchi is inspired by a Japanese mythological creature. In Japanese folklore, the Mizuchi is an aquatic serpent-like dragon.

Free Louise Belcher’s Stuffed Toy Animal Mizuchi (from Bob’s Burgers) Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

To create this stuffed toy, I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran from LoveCrafts. I chose to work with Paintbox Yarns for this project because it comes in so many colours and makes colour-matching for this specific project so easy. However, you can use any yarn as long as you correspond your hook to the weight of your yarn.
For this pattern, I used roughly 130-150g of Bubblegum Pink (3-4 skeins of yarn), 20g of Raspberry Pink (< 1 skein), 10g of Champagne White (< 1 skein), and a little bit of Pure Black for the pupils and mouth. The amount of yarn you use will depend on your tension and the type of stitch you use.
Mizuchi measures to be about 10 inches (25.5cm) tall and is VERY huggable. This pattern is suitable to make for beginners, but might be considered a longer project due to its size. This pattern is written in US crochet terminology.
Please do not reprint, sell or claim the pattern as your own. If you wish to share this pattern, you may link to the free pattern on the blog. Please do not copy and post the pattern onto your site.

THINGS YOU NEED
- Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran in Bubblegum Pink, Raspberry Pink, Champagne White, and Pure Black
- 3.25mm Crochet Hook
- Scissors
- Darning Needle
- Locking Stitch Markers
- Pins
- Polyfil Stuffing or Scrap Yarn
Gauge
5 Round Circle = 1.5” with a 3.25mm (D) hook
Note: I am working with the x-stitch (yarn under single crochet). If you are working a standard sc, go down a hook size.
Gauge isn’t super important for amigurumi, but I included it just in case you want to check your gauge. Being a little off should not affect the final product too much. You can learn more about how to measure gauge for amigurumi here!

Pupil

Make 2
with Pure Black yarn
Tie a quintuple overhand knot (The video below demonstrates a quadruple overhand knot, just add one more loop over). Leave two tails for each pupil. You will need the tails to be long enough to make another quintuple overhand knot later. See Assembly for photo.
Assembly
- Insert the tail ends of the pupil through the centre of the eye piece.
- Turn around and tie a quintuple overhand knot on the back side to secure the pupil in place.
- Pin the Spikes along the spine of the back (the marker you have placed on Row 47 comes in handy now). Starting from the base of the back and going up towards the top of the head, pin in the following order: 3 small, 3 large, and then finally, one small spike on what is going to be the forehead.
- To make sure your spikes are lined up properly, adjust placement while looking from the top of the head down. Sew the spikes into place.
- Pin the Eyes onto the front of the Head. The top of the eyes should start at around Row 26 and there should be 8 sts between the eyes.
- Embroider a very shallow “U” to create the mouth with Pure Black yarn; 3 rows below the bottom of the eyes and 2 sts in on both sides from the eyes.
- Sew the opening of the arms shut to make it easier to sew onto the body.
- Pin the Arms onto the front of the Body. The top of outer side of the arms should start at Row 36 and the inner part of the arms should end at Row 39, roughly 19-20 sts between the inner part of the arms.
