Note: This pattern has been updated as of May 2021. The changes include an updated hook size, gauge, and stitch type that creates much tighter stitches. This creates a slightly smaller toy, but ensures that the stuffing doesn’t show through if you are matching the gauge provided.
I love Bob’s Burgers. And as a tribute to show my love for the show, I decided a while ago that I would create the 5 main stuffed toys from the episode Flu-ouise (Season 7, Episode 1). It’s been a while since that episode first aired, but I’m finally doing it!
Meet Dodomeki! Dodomeki is honestly one of the weirdest creatures I have ever made. Although she’s a bit creepy looking, she has an ugly-cute, alien-like quality that I’m really into.
The name Dodomeki is inspired by a Japanese mythological monster. In Japanese folklore, the Dodomeki is a monster that takes the form of women who are cursed to have eyes all along their arms. They are pretty creepy looking, so Google at your own risk if you’re feeling curious (but don’t say I didn’t warn you!).

Free Louise Belcher’s Stuffed Animal Dodomeki (from Bob’s Burgers) Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

To create this stuffed toy, I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran from LoveCrafts. I chose to work with Paintbox Yarns for this project because it comes in so many colours and makes colour-matching for this specific project so easy. However, you can use any cotton yarn as long as you correspond your hook to the weight of your yarn.
For this pattern, I used roughly 90-110g of Dusty Lilac (2-3 skeins of yarn), 10g of Red Wine (< 1 skein), 40g of Pale Lilac (1 skein), 20g of Pistachio Green (< 1 skein), 20g of Champagne White (< 1 skein), and a little bit of Pure Black for the pupils. Please note that the amount of yarn you use will depend on your tension.
Dodomeki measures to be about 8.5 inches (21.5 cm) tall. The difficulty level of this pattern is Intermediate and this pattern is written in US crochet terminology. If you’re just starting out on your amigurumi journey, you can check out some of the simpler free patterns on the Blog!
Please do not reprint, sell or claim the pattern as your own. If you wish to share this pattern, you may link to the free pattern on the blog. Please do not copy and post the pattern onto your site.

Gauge
5 Round Circle = 1.5” (Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran) with a 3.25mm (D) hook.
Note: I am working with the x-stitch (yarn under single crochet). If you are working a standard sc, go down a hook size.
Gauge isn’t super important for amigurumi, but I included it just in case you want to check your gauge. Being a little off should not affect the final product too much. You can learn more about how to measure gauge for amigurumi here!
*Please note that the patterns are worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated.

Completing the Head
- Insert hook through the back loops of the Bottom Piece and through both loops of the bottom of the Head, sl st all around. Making sure to stuff the Head before you completely close the bottom off.

- To stuff the head properly, place your hand in the mouth as you are stuffing the head to prevent overstuffing in the mouth area.
- Do not over-stuff the head. Slowly layer the stuffing into the head and compressing as you stuff.

- Weave tail in.

Pupil
Make 3
with Pure Black yarn
Tie a quintuple overhand knot (This video below demonstrates a quadruple overhand knot, just add one more loop over.) Leave two tails for each pupil. You will need the tails to be long enough to make another quintuple overhand knot later. See Assembly for photo.
Assembly
- Pin 2 medium and 2 big teeth (big teeth towards the centre) onto the top part of the mouth. Sew in place.
- Pin 2 medium and 2 small teeth (medium teeth towards the centre) onto the bottom part of the mouth. Sew in place.
- Insert the tails of the pupil through the centre of the eye piece.
- Turn around and tie a quintuple overhand knot on the back side to secure the pupil in place.
- Pin the eyes onto the Head. The top of the first eye should be at Row 13 or 14. The top of the other two eyes should start a row above the bottom of the first eye, with 8 sts between the eyes. Sew in place.
- Pin all three legs onto the bottom of the Head to position. Pin the first leg towards the front and centre. Space the other two legs out evenly towards the back. Once you’re happy with the position, sew them on one by one.

Do you sell it
Hi there Elizabeth, thank you for your interest! I do not sell the actual toys, just the patterns.
Abby
Hi! Do you use the X-Stitch Single Crochet for Dodomeki? If so, will the height still be 10 inches?
Hi! Do you use the X-Stitch Single Crochet for Dodomeki? If so, will Dodomeki be 10 inches tall?
Hi Christina, I’m currently testing it out on dodomeki (which is why it hasn’t been updated yet), but using the x-stitch will result in a smaller toy. It will likely be 8″ tall instead of 10″.
Hope this helps!
Abby
Thank you!
Hi! I’ve had so much fun making koochi and mizuchi so far! Now that I’m working on dodomeki, I was hoping you might post a video showing how to attach the head to the mouth. It feels intimidating. Thank you!!
Hi Kelsey,
I unfortunately don’t have the time at the moment to film and edit a video. Perhaps next year though! It looks more intimidating that it actually is, just make sure to count the stitches on each half of the mouth piece after you single crochet along the middle to make sure you have the right amount of stitches! 🙂
Abby
I’ve got everything done but I’ve tried 3 times now to attach the mouth to the head and finish rows 32-35 but every time it does NOT look like the photos. I would love maybe a more detailed/easier way to explain those last few (or at least 32-33) rows…..please!!!!!
