My husband and I are heading to New Orleans today and it’s going to be both of our first times! One of the things we’re planning to do is the Ghost, Voodoo, Vampires and Witches tour, so posting this pattern now feels so fitting and makes me so excited for our trip.
This Witch’s Cauldron is one of my favourite ornaments from the Halloween collection. The little bits of wispy steam on top is so cute and I love that this ornament adds a pop of colour to my faux birch tree. I made mine into an ornament, but I think that this crochet Cauldron would also look super cute on a counter with a couple of crocheted pumpkins!
Free Halloween Cauldron Ornament Amigurumi Pattern

I used the Knitpicks Shine Sport yarn for all of the ornaments in my Halloween collection because I love how smooth it crochets up. The yarn also looks slightly glossy, which makes the ornaments look a little bit more polished.
For this particular ornament, I used the colours Serenade (deep purple) and Green Apple (light green). Those are colours I don’t use very often, but they work very well together when made into this adorable Witch’s Cauldron ornament. I also utilized the wispy look of wool roving to create some spoooky vapours. The finished Witch’s Cauldron ornament measures to be about 3 inches tall.
The difficulty level of this pattern is Intermediate and this pattern is written in US crochet terminology.

A fun way to spruce up your cauldron ornament!
A while back, a customer sent me photos of her cauldron. She purchased flickering faux tea lights to put into her cauldron ornaments to take her cauldron ornament to the next level. Here’s how you can do that too!
I bought my tea lights from Michael’s, but they’re not easy to find. These are similar to the one I used in the video:
Cauldron Legs

Make 3
with Serenade yarn
1 5sc in magic circle [5]
2 BLO, sc in all sts [5]
3 sc in all sts [5]
Fasten off, leave a tail for sewing.
Cauldron Handles

Make 2
with Serenade yarn
1 ch 7, sl st into 2nd ch from hook, sl st in the rest of the sts [6]
Fasten off, leave a tail for sewing.
Assembling the Cauldron together:
- Locate 3 spots on the bottom of your cauldron, roughly between Rows 5 & 6. Pin the cauldron legs onto those spots and sew in place.
- Pin the handles onto the side of the cauldron and sew in place.

- If you’re planning to make this into an ornament, string a piece of yarn through the top and tie off to close the loop off.
- This part is optional but (in my opinion) adds so much character to the cauldron. Pinch a little bit of wool roving and pull lightly to loosen it up. I used darker olive coloured wool roving, but you can use any colour you want (grey or pink would look really cool too).
- Divide the wool roving into three wispy bundles.
- With your felting needle, poke the centre of the wool roving into the top around the ornament string. Lightly shape the top of the steam to make it look more realistic.

- Continue doing that with the other two wool roving bundles until you have the amount of steam you want your cauldron to have.

Congrats, you have just finished brewing your potion! I love how this Witch’s Cauldron ornament turned out and seeing it on my tree makes me so happy. Feel free to change up the colours to customize your cauldron; I think some pink witch’s brew instead of the green would look really cool too!
